On September 14th I was part of a foursome at the “Bright Side of the Course” golf outing event at Aurora Country Club. This was the second year in a row Fidelity was a sponsor of this event. In fact, sport mirrors life.  Many of you, I’m sure, are celebrating the Dallas Mavericks winning the NBA finals.   Cleveland fans in general do not like LeBron James… there was much celebration when the “Mavs” pulled it together.

Did you think it would ever really happen? Did you ever think two of the nations largest ISP’s -- AT&T & Comcast -- would ever really impose data caps on Internet services?

Starting today, customers throughout the country are now subject to caps on AT&T's and Comcast broadband services. Subscribers will be limited to 150 gigabytes of uploads and downloads per month for regular DSL customers and 250GB of broadband usage per month for U-Verse subscribers. If customers exceed the monthly data caps for either the DSL or U-Verse broadband services they will be charged.

The past few weeks have seen massive consolidation in telecom. Level3 purchased Global Crossings in a 3 Billion dollar deal that sent shockwaves throughout the industry. The new company will combine the top two rated IP backbones and the largest International submarine laid fiber network in the world. Level3 - already in massive debt - is claiming the deal will significantly improve its balance sheet, although they are borrowing another 1.75 Billion and assuming over 1 Billion of Global Crossing debt.

Social media has arrived. Millions - if not billions - of people all over the world have joined the party. You can reach millions of people in a instant at any time with virtually no cost. The biggest and best companies in the world have joined in: If Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Zappos, Google and Starbucks are doing it then it must be big... real big!

Today I will discuss my favorite topic: Finding great people. Years ago I picked up a book at a Marriott hotel. The founder simply said "We don't teach our people to be nice" then in smaller print "We simply hire nice people".
